Class of 2011 builds the 5th FrogHouse for a deserving family in Fort Worth!
The
students of TCU are currently working on their 5th Habitat for Humanity
Project, FrogHouse. Eleven Junior Directors from the Class of 2011 and
One Senior Executive Director from the Class of 2010 are coordinating
the project to raise $58,000, recruit 400+ volunteers, and educate the
TCU Community on the importance of Community Renewal.
You
remember that the transitions program is grounded in the TCU mission
statement. The Junior Year focuses on the words, “ . . . responsible
citizens . . .” As a TCU parent or family member, please support them
as they dedicate themselves, as responsible citizens, to enhancing the
lives of a local family. Your support can take the form of the
following:
Financial Support – Please donate to the FrogHouse Project through the following methods
Online – Go to https://wwwa.is.tcu.edu/webpay/FrogHouse_gifts.asp
Mailing – All checks can be made payable to TCU FrogHouse and mailed to:
Texas Christian University
Attn: FrogHouse
TCU Box 297350
Fort Worth, TX 76129
Recruitment
– Please ask your Son and/or Daughter if they would consider helping in
building the house in the Spring 2010 Semester. Builds are usually on
Fridays and Saturdays in (2) four hour shifts.
Build – If you are local, you and your student could schedule to build together.
What
better way to show students the true value in giving back to the
community, then to support them as they aid a family in need.
If
there are any questions or if you would like to learn more about the
FrogHouse Project or volunteer, please call 817.257.7855 or go to the

Greetings Parents!

November is upon us! In the month of October, we had Family Weekend, Fall Break, and Homecoming! I hope you were able to enjoy your student during one or more of these venues.
This newsletter is filled with information! Read carefully!
November signifies Thanksgiving which may mean your student will be arriving home for the first time this semester. You and your student may have very different expectations about re-entry into the family. It’s a good idea to discuss expectations now so the Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks will be more enjoyable for everyone. Here are some suggestions:
• Identify together what may be trigger points for conflict within your family.
• You and your student should make separate lists about what is expected on these issues and any others that may come to mind.
• Share the lists with one another.
• Be ready to compromise on certain issues.
• Schedule time with your student while he/she is home.
• Tell your student at the beginning of the visit about any “command family appearances.”
Let me assure you that your student is as happy about being home as you are to have him/her home! Nipping the conflicts in the bud can make a better experience for everyone! May Thanksgiving be a joyful time for everyone!
For some students, due to distance, work, money or another reason, they may not be going home for the Thanksgiving Holiday. It your student will be home, you might ask him/her if he/she wants to bring a friend or two. Usually students who are not leaving campus seem to find each other. Some groups cook together, others go out to eat. I have never met a student that didn’t eat on Thanksgiving Day.
The Class of 2011 is building the 5th FrogHouse for a deserving family in Fort Worth! Read about the project and learn how you can participate!
November is also the time for applications at TCU. If your student is interested in applying for leadership opportunities such as Frog Camp Facilitator, Orientation Student Assistant, Resident Assistant, or Connections Mentor, now is the time to inquire and apply.
If your son or daughter is interested in gaining more leadership knowledge or experience, Leadership Seminars are a great way! These Seminars are a wonderful way to meet new people, learn some leadership skills, and increase confidence in one’s abilities. More information is located in the newsletter. Registration for Spring classes begins on November 23, 2009.
Pre-registration for Spring 2010 classes begins on November 16. If a student has a “hold” on his/her account for any reason (financial, academic, behavior, etc) he/she will not be able to register until it is removed.
I’ll close with a reminder to log on to the TCU parent website at parents.tcu.edu for current and updated information.
GO FROGS!

TCU Student Experience

We believe that in order to get ahead of the curve, students should ASPIRE.ENGAGE.ACHIEVE. To help students meet these goals, the Division of Student Affairs has launched an on-line initiative designed to help your student successfully navigate their college experience.
Starting their freshman year, the TCU Student Experience incorporates a 5 step process that will allow your student to build the foundation of his/her TCU Student Experience.
Step 1: Download your Progress Chart.
Step 2: Start with the wellness track, move to the academic track, then to leadership & service, career & vocation, and end with Being A Horned Frog.
Step 3: Determine goals on your Progress Chart for each track.
Step 4: Write down your plan of action on your Progress Chart.
Step 5: Return to this website periodically to journal your progress and reflect on the results of your actions.
Mid-semester, students will be asked to bring a print out of your Progress Chart and any reflections you make to your one on one meeting with their Connections Mentor.
Our hope is that you will explore the site (www.studentexperience.tcu.edu) as if you were a student. Download the progress chart to use as a conversation starter and discuss goals and objectives with your child.
Leadership Seminars

The mission of the TCU Leadership Center is to support and empower students to bring about positive, lasting change through leadership development.
Among our many services, we offer a variety of seminars focusing on student development as a leader – ranging from Foundations of Leadership, to Ethical Leadership, to Global Leadership, Community Action and Multicultural Leadership.
Once students take four seminars, they will receive designation as a Leadership Scholar and be awarded a leadership medallion to wear across the stage at graduation.
General information about our seminars:
- Seminars begin the second week of the semester and last approximately 8 weeks (most meet once a week for 1 hour).
- Students may enroll in any seminar of his/her interest. However, if this is the first time taking a leadership seminar, we recommend beginning with our introductory course, Foundations of Leadership. If you are a Chancellor’s Leadership Program fellow, you will receive CLP course registration information or you may contact your CLP advisor.
- There is no charge to enroll in any of our leadership seminars.
Registration for Leadership Seminars will open on November 23rd and the following seminars will be offered:
Philanthropy of Leadership
Foundations of Leadership

The Chancellor’s Leadership Program (CLP) at TCU has a long and rich history of leadership development. Through a variety of programs and services including seminars, speakers, conferences, international experiences, community outreach, and advising, and the development of a senior legacy project, CLP is able to make the University’s mission statement of “educating individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in a global community” come to life.
Benefits of CLP include:
• Recognition as a Leadership Scholar and other prestigious distinctions upon graduation
• Scholarships for leadership development locally, nationally and globally
• Monies to support Research Assistantships alongside faculty
• Individual advising for personal leadership development
• Priority consideration for leadership conferences and international experiences sponsored by
TCU
• Exposure to key administrators and top community leaders throughout their college years
Every freshman will be invited to apply to become a part of this distinguished group of student leaders. Between 30 and 60 will be selected.
Selection criteria includes:
• Well-roundedness. The selection committee will look at activities students were involved with while in high school and since they have come to TCU. Type of involvement includes work, travel, honors, fine arts, athletics, community, volunteer, religious and academic groups.
• Commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. The selection committee will look at the student’s level of excitement and commitment to social change. Are they passionate about community issues? Do they see themselves developing as a social change agent and leader in their communities? If yes, CLP is the place for them.
If this is a program your student may be interested in applying for, please let them know that applications for this year’s CLP cohort will be available at www.clp.tcu.edu on November 2nd. The deadline for submission is November 14.

The Office of the Registrar wants to provide your student with service that reflects the very highest standards of support for their academic endeavors. Since you, as parents, are concerned with matters such as insurance, we are notifying you of the information and services that are available to your student online via their my.tcu.edu account. This is a copy of the information that was sent to your student via email.
• Does your student need an enrollment verification for insurance, loan deferment or other purposes? They may request and print an enrollment verification from their my.tcu.edu account and can include specific identifying account numbers, if needed. If your student qualifies, they can print a Good Student Discount Certificate for your automobile insurer or any other company that requires status as a Good Student for the current term. Enrollment verifications are processed via the national student clearinghouse and are requested by millions of students and accepted by thousands of companies nationwide. Most organizations will recognize the validity of an enrollment verification produced in this manner.
• Does your student need an official transcript quickly? Your student may go to my.tcu.edu, open the Student Center and select the Order Official Transcript option. Official transcripts are now available in electronic pdf format and can be sent to an email address if the electronic delivery method is selected. Traditional printed transcripts can be ordered and delivered via the mail, as well. All requests are processed usually within one business day.
• If your student hasn’t already done so, please consider asking them to Grant Access to Others. By creating and granting this access, they can allow parents, for example, to view their student account, make payments, review their financial aid, or see their grades. They have complete control over what access is given and to whom. They can set this up by going to my.tcu.edu and click on the Student Center once. The Grant access option will appear as an option on the left menu.
Pre-registration for Spring 2010 begins on November 16th. To be eligible to pre-register, the student’s account must be current (payment of the Minimum Amount Due shown on the October statement has been received). Email notifications that the monthly bill is ready to view are sent to anyone that has been granted access by a student. If your student has not yet signed you up for access to view their account and their bill, please ask them to follow these simple directions:
1. Log on to my.tcu.edu
2. Click on the Student Center link, then Grant Access to Others link
3. Enter the requested information in each of the required fields, then under Access Type, check the E-Bill/Student Account Info box and click Save.
Once your student has completed these steps, you will receive an email confirmation that includes your username and password. Please keep this information in a secure location, as you will need it to access your student’s account and their bill. Remember to add finserv@tcu.edu to your contact list, so that the monthly notifications are not viewed as Spam by your computer network.
